Xenex the Bug Man Issue 5 Ship design #1

Troop Carrier Design Copyright © 2012
by Taylor Lymbery for Xenex the Bug Man
For issue 5 of Xenex the Bug Man, I have one simple hanger scene where Xenex and General Torax look out over the fleet. To populate the bay, I need to create several ship designs to show diversity of the technology that comprises the general's fleet. This is one design. It is a troop carrier. There looks to be a few problems with the drawing itself. The line work on the top of the ship is crooked. The ramming prong on the right side of the ship is not set correctly in space so it looks smaller than it should. The line work on the top is actually supposed to be crooked. I might add another line in the front to show that. The ramming prong actually moves out and in to cover the door when in flight. This shows that the piece is moveable. Without giving too much away from future stories, this design, and the design of most of the ships in the hanger scene will make a comeback in a future battle. I am pushing to have the next issue of Xenex the Bug Man ready for the Sci-Fi Expo that is taking place in February in Irving, Texas.  If not then, I will have it ready for the Dallas Comic Con. If you are interested in getting the Xenex the Bug Man series of comic books, head over to the comics section of the store to get the book from indyplanet.com.

Xenex in Real Life- Nachos!

So, first off, I would like to thank everyone that stopped by the Fan Days table last weekend. You all rock! While I was there promoting Xenex the Bug Man, I was given nachos. I've got to tell you, once that first nacho touches your lip, you instantly become hooked! I don't care who you are, the nachos are addictive! Maybe I'll have nachos delivered to me in every convention! Woo Ha ha!
Also, if you have coloring sheets to send into me, send them in. I'll post all of the coloring sheets on the site and on to the Xenex the Bug Man facey-book page. I'll also post any fan art of the Bug Man here as well. (hint, hint)
I am working on the new Unstoppable Force comic book issue now, but I do have some new designs and information to post on the new issue of Xenex soon. Keep coming to the site for new postings!

Xenex table at Fan Days 2012

I do have a table for the Fan Days Convention on October 19-21. I'll be there with a lot of new work to sell, including two new pin-up girl posters, a small pressing of Xenex the Bug Man issue 4, a few printings of the previous issues of Xenex the Bug Man and custom toys. Jeff will also be selling some Marvindog media merchandise! Stop by, say,"hi", and show your support. I hope to see many people there! Also, I have extended the Bug Man coloring sheet contest...again. If you had coloring sheets to bring to me during the Dallas Comic Con, bring them to this convention, I will have a few more sheets to hand out. Remember all entries will get their work posted on the Xenex the Bug Man site.

New Character Design for Xenex issus 5- General Torax

General Torax Design Work
Issue 5 Xenex the Bug Man Art Copyright by Taylor Lymbery 2012
There is a new character in issue five that has been great to design. When I first went into designing this character, I was not sure what manner of alien he would be. At this point, I had to think about what he is native too. He's native to the city world, but in a time before the city boomed into what it is in issue four. I thought of the world of Apparitis once being a nice forest world with a few great lakes with coasts and some interior plains. The idea is that industry has transformed this world into the city megalopolis that we see in the Xenex the Bug Man comic. So, The General is native to the world when there was still some coast and forest. I gave him a bit more of an expressive face, due to the fact that besides Lucy the human facial feature elements are basically gone. I get to bring some of that back with his face. One of the things that I really want to point out is that this is not a Ferangi from Star Trek. The idea of the ears is borrowed to an extent, but I wanted to make sure that this guy was not going to be confused with that species. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Here were some of the other designs I did for this character.

If you want to purchase one from me there, get there early. If you order your book online, bring it to the convention, and I'll sign it (signing is free with a smile)! I'll be there with Jeff from Marvin Dog Media and host of Talking Toys with Taylor and Jeff. He will be selling some Marvin Dog Media shirts and handing out a few things. I'll also have some artwork for sale, the remaining cowboy clone trooper prints, some posters and the custom toys I've been working on. Come by and say hi and check out the works!

Issue 5 Interior Art- Lucy

Issue 5 Interior Final Art
Issue 5 Xenex the Bug Man Art Copyright by Taylor Lymbery 2012
Issue 5 is almost finished being written. I have a few pages where dialog is giving me trouble. For the Interior art for the front interior cover, I had decided that I wanted to feature Lucy. I dug through older art and used the line work for Lucy that I had used on the secondary Show banner. I wasn't satisfied with the background for her for this particular issue, so I did some reworking in photoshop. The first "final" I did I thought was ok, but it lacked the color to match the front cover. I went back in and added a few background elements that I think relate the overall piece to where the characters are in the current story. I am very much happy with the final piece. I hope you enjoy it too.

I have more pictures posted after these important messages!

Xenex the Bug Man issue 4 is in my hand!

Me holding the first printing of Xenex the Bug Man issue 4!
Imagine this: I'm sitting at my board illustrating a page for UF and the doorbell rings. Who could it be? It's the Postman and he is dropping off one of the most wonderful packages! What's the package? It's a small printing of Xenex the Bug Man issue 4! I am so excited about this! It's been a while since I had a new issue made and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. So far, from front to back, I have found no problems with it's printing. It looks fantastic and even better than issue 3 (for those of you that have issue 3)!

On top of having some comics in my hand, Indyplanet just let me know that this issue is now for sale on their website! So, head over to the comics tab, or follow this link straight over and order your copy! If you do not have the previous copies, I have their links posted in the Comic Books tab on the store front. If you order a bunch of issues at once, you can save on shipping!

New Design in the Xenex the Bug Man Cafepress Store

I recently cleaned up and modernized the Xenex the Bug Man cafepress shop. I really felt it needed it. I've added some really cool products, like buttons! You've got to love buttons! I also added a new design today called Rifleman Elak! It looks good!
Rifleman Elak by Taylor Lymbery
You can get this design with all of the products that the other designs come on. Besides for going to the indyplanet site and getting the comics, this is another great way to support the independent comic book, Xenex the Bug Man! Go show your bug man love!
As soon as I get word that issue 4 is going to the indyplanet.com website, I'll post it here on the site! Till then, if you need to get any of the previous issues, go to the comics tab in the storefront.

Xenex the Bug Man Issue 5 Cover Revealed!

Xenex issue 5 Cover by Taylor Lymbery
Now that issue 4 is done, registered and off to the printer, I decided to go ahead with my tradition and show off the cover for the next issue. And I have to tell you now, I'm VERY proud of this cover!

When I made this issue's cover, I had to break it into two pieces.  One was the foreground artwork, the other was the background artwork. The background artwork is to be used for the back cover art when the first volume of issues are bound together. Both layers were colored in PhotoShop.

I really want to spill the beans and tell you all what exactly is going on with this cover, but I really shouldn't. I might give away too many secrets from issue 4 before it comes back from the printers! If you couldn't tell, I've become very pumped and excited about these new issues of Xenex the Bug Man!

As soon as I get word that issue 4 is going to the indyplanet.com website, I'll post it here on the site! Till then, if you need to get any of the previous issues, go to the comics tab in the storefront.

Last page for issue 4!

I cannot express the level of excitement that I have right now working on the last page of this spectacular issue! The last couple of pages have been outstanding, but they have some spoilers in them, so I decided not to share them here. Instead, I will show just a small piece of unfinished work on the very last page. If you are familiar with the series, then you know who this is. I hope that this gets you excited for what's ahead! Once the issue is up for sale, I'll post the info on where to buy it! Thank you, Xenex the Bug Man fans, for your support!

Issue 4 Update and Pencil page Preview!

Pencil Xenex page by Taylor Lymbery © 2012
I'm feeling a bit better today so I am back to finishing up the last few pages! As I am getting back to the board, I have become confused with myself. If I was upset about the amount of detail that was put in the rain on the Jungle Moon of Morgra, why in the world would I be ok with the city setting on Apparitis?! I know I've been sick, but come on! I'm not sure what I am thinking, but I will have to admit, these scenes look fantastic! I am able to help build the feeling of this place with the architecture of the building around our characters. These pages take a bit longer, but they will really help strengthen the way this universe works. I'm not sure if that makes any sense, but hang in there with this title. You'll see. Here's a quick preview of an issue 4 page!

Ups, Downs, and Working on Getting Better

Hello everybody! I want to thank you for sticking with me all of this time. I know that it has been a couple of weeks since I posted sketch cards, Xenex the Bug Man updates and such. Just to keep everyone updated, I've been in the hospital due to the mass on my neck. I'm out for now but not done. I'll be going soon to get a biopsy and I'll have to see where that takes me. For now, though, I am back at home as of last night. This is exciting for me cause I got to see my cat, got to spend time with my lovely Wife and got to open a butt-load of toys that I din't get to since I was in the hospital. I am happy to be back. As far as my work, I am thinking that I will be back to posting sketch cards on Monday, and I will be working to finish up issue 4 of Xenex the Bug Man over the next couple of weeks before I head on over to do another Unstoppable Force issue. I am hoping my body will allow me to get back to work for a while. Let's pray and keep  our fingers crossed.
Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. So I will be there (given that I don't have another mishap).

Now, I'm opening commissions for 2.5" X 3.5" sketch cards. They are $10 + shipping and handling which will be $6 in the continental United States of America. I'll have to get a quote for any territories outside of that. I will also open up my 7" X 10.5" colored page line drawings for commissions. Same price as the sketch cards, but I'll have to check on the shipping (due to the difference in size). If you want to see what I mean by colored sheet drawing, go here. If you want a sketch card, send me an e-mail to taylorlymbery@gmail.com. Name your character and we will go from there. I take paypal.
I want to make sure you all have links to the projects and sites that I work on. Here is the listing.

Post Dallas Comic Con 2012 News

So I wanted to start out by saying, thank you all that came by and visited with Rob and I! You rock for that! And a big thank you to all that came by and bought something too. Your purchases help us keep making comic books. I saw a lot of familiar faces, and I was so happy to talk to you all! Familiar faces always brighten my day!

Now I do want to apologize about my absence on Sunday.  I don't like missing talking with the fans. I had to go to the hospital for my swollen parotid gland. I am in a lot of pain and could not have been able to sit at the booth for the day. I have another doctor's appointment this morning and I do HOPE that this health problem is fixed soon.

Just a quick update: I did go ahead and purchase a table for the Fan Days Convention in October. So I will be there (given that I don't have another mishap). I didn't get a lot of pin-ups done due to how I was feeling, but I did get three. Here the three (Cap'n A, Iron Man, Mega Man), a pic of a pin-up I gave Rob a while ago (Batwoman) and a donation piece I did to raise money to help a couple who just lost their home to a fire (Cowboy).

Enjoy-
Taylor

A Whole Kit Kabboodle of "New" Things Xenex

Art by Taylor Lymbery (Barnlord)
As I wind down with just a handful of pages left to do for the new issue of Xenex the Bug Man, the realization of almost an entire year  passing me by since the last issue went to press. I have no excuses. A few reasons, but no excuses. I did feel that I lost heart in this project, my baby, and a few others. I has taken a lot to get me out of my slump and to get back to the creative process. And creative it is! So far, I have been blown away with the level of art, mise en scene, layout and story. I feel that this issue will be a good turning point for this book and I hope you all feel the same.
As far as this issue goes, it does pick right up where the story ends in issue three. You will finally get to see a character that has been mentioned since issue 1 and is a critical character to the overall story ark.  We do get a new setting. No more Moon of Morgra. Sorry folks, I had to move on from the Jungle moon. There's only so much I can do there. I will have to say that I am absolutely relieved to not be drawing rain anymore (well,at least for a while). Instead I have replaced it with a city planet! Time to test my architecture skills!

Art by Taylor Lymbery (Barnlord)

Though I will have to admit that I have not made it easy for myself. In this issue, you are only on the city planet named, Apparitis, for a few pages. So you are not going to get the full idea of how expansive this city planet is at first, but it is going to be a great challenge to draw page after page! As with the Xenex the Bug Man series, I have left a very tongue and cheek science fiction element to the writing, focusing on the relationship of the characters. You wouldn't care about the story if the characters didn't work well together. At least, that's how I feel. I do get to divulge a little of Xenex's past, and the past of the universe. There's a lot there.

Overall, I'm very happy with this issue. I should have it ready to print on Ka-Blam within the next month. Some of that depends on when the editor can go over it to make sure everything is perfection. If it runs a little over, please don't judge. I make this book in my spare time, and I find I have less and less of it as the days  go on. I'm not done bringing you issues! Let's just hope it doesn't take so long the next issue.

If you guys know me, I hope that you have been entertained by the daily sketch cards I've been posting on my personal art site, www.taylorlymbery.com to help pay for the Dallas Comic Con table. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Oh yeah... Dallas Comic Con.

HEY EVERYBODY! DALLAS COMIC CON IS COMING UP QUICK! READ BELOW!

Now, I'm going to have a bunch of sketch cards available at the Dallas Comic Con. I'll be selling them for $10. I am also opening commissions of sketch cards. They will also be $10 + shipping and handling which will be $6 in the continental United States of America. I'll have to get a quote for any territories outside of that. I will also open up my colored page line drawings for commissions. Same price as the sketch cards, but I'll have to check on the shipping (due to the difference in size). If you want to see what I mean by colored sheet drawing, go here. If you want a sketch card, send me an e-mail to taylorlymbery@gmail.com. Name your character and we will go from there. Again, these sketch cards and commissions help pay for the tables and the supplies, so please, don't hesitate to help support by buying art work from me. I'm an independent artist, so I don't make a lot of money. I do this work because I'm passionate about it and want to bring you cool stories and illustrations. So, if you are in the neighborhood...

The Convention will be May 19th-20th. It will be at the Irving Convention Center that is located at 500 W Las Colinas Blvd. , Irving, TX. Tickets for Saturday will be $25.00 for 11:00am to 7:00pm, and tickets for Sunday will be $20.00 for 11:00am to 4:00pm. If you happen to go to the Convention, stop by and say hi to Rob and I. Also, Rob just posted some info about what he will have at the table. You can check out what he has to say here

If you are a ongoing Xenex the Bug Man fan ( and I know I picked up a couple at the last few conventions) I would like to take the time to thank you! :D You guys are awesome! So, with that being said, yes, we have a new Bug Man site! This should be a load easier to update and maintain. When I get back to it, I will get a new page posted with the origin story pages on the site. I did have someone ask about that.

Well, I think that's about it. If you are new to the Bug Man series and want to help out, subscribe to the RSS, follow the blog and /or like the facebook page! I'll add an e-mail update button and any other buttons I can think of that will make viewing this content easier.

Thank you all for the support!

Dallas Comic Con 2012

I need to avert your attention to a really big event coming up soon: THE DALLAS COMIC CON. If you are familiar with me (Taylor Lymbery) and my workings as a newbie, trying to make it as an upcoming illustrator, then you might have seen a trend of me not missing any Dallas Comic Con event for the past couple of years. I will be there at this years event. Rob Payne will be there with me. I'll have the banners up that I used at the Scifi Expo back in February. So, if you remember my booth, that's how you can find us this upcoming event.

Some of the works for sale.

I'm adding a new pin-up girl poster to the prints to sell. I will be selling the clone trooper cowboy print there as well. Rob will have a decent size printing of the Giant Size Unstoppable Force for $6 and I will have a small printing of all three issues of Xenex the Bug Man 1-3. I'll price those at all three and a Xenex 11"X17" print for $10. I'll also have the other 11"X17" prints for $10. I will have some of my original pieces up for sale as well as sketch cards and smaller original pieces. I haven't decided on a price yet for that work.
